Ski Resorts that are almost better in the summer.

By Bailey Ness

If you live for a weekend getaway on the slopes while indulging in the aprés-ski lifestyle—hey, welcome to the club! But have you ever thought about checking out those same ski towns in the summer?

No 1. Breckenridge, CO

At Breckenridge, all four seasons are packed with the best of the outdoors, indoors, and everything in between. Breckenridge is widely known for its legendary skiing and historic Main street, two things that unite locals and visitors. It’s easy to embrace life’s best moments here shredding the powder down the slopes in the ski season and adventuring on those same slopes in the summer. Breckenridge’s summer activities speak to the more adventurous travelers. Zipline and rope courses in the mountains attract those looking for a scenic view and an adrenaline rush all at the same time.

It doesn’t end there, though. Summer festivals like The Breckenridge International Festival of Arts is one of the many events that bring together a mix of mountain cuisine, art, music, and entertainment to add to an already eventful weekend in Colorado.

No. 2 Big Sky, MT

Summer activities are Big Sky’s best-kept secret! If you love the outdoors, you will fall in love with summers here. Unique outdoor activities like whitewater rafting, a bungee trampoline, and a giant swing offer a thrilling trip to the mountains. The Big Sky Golf Course is also a “can’t miss” feature to this town. This award-winning golf course offers stunning views of the Big Sky Park and was designed by Arnold Palmer, the professional golfer, not to be confused with the iced tea drink.

If you want even more activity, the Big Mountain Enduro has arguably some of the best trails in the US. Racers will experience steep and technical terrain with a unique mix of loamy dirt, roots, rocks, high speed singletrack, tight switchbacks.

No. 3 Keystone, CO

A summer weekend in Keystone is a weekend well spent! With the enormous array of outdoor activities, the “granola girl” in you will thrive in the Rocky Mountain terrain. Here you have easy access to mountain biking, hiking, fly fishing, paddle sports, and horseback riding. Where ice skating rules the winter at Keystone Lake, this waterway at the center of Lakeside Village provides standup paddleboarding and ayaks for a quick tour around its perimeter. As if that all doesn’t sound perfect enough, scenic gondola rides are offered on this lake, too!

No. 4 Aspen/Snowmass, CO

It may be hard to believe, but it is still possible to have fun in a place called Snowmass without the snow. Nowhere is the aprés-ski lifestyle more embraced than here in Aspen, and it turns out that Aspen is just as spectacular under the summer sun. Some of the most popular warm-weather activities include discovering world-class hiking trails, going on a culinary adventure, and exploring the Independence Pass for the best views around. Is it a picture from Aspen or a Dell desktop background? Your Instagram followers may never know.

We recommend using Aspen as a time to renew your mind and body. It’s easy to reset here with a morning paddleboard yoga class, a stroll through the Aspen farmer’s market, or a ride on the Silver Queen Gondola.

No. 5 Jackson Hole

Fun fact! Wyoming is the least populated state in the US. Which makes it the perfect place to spend summer in while social distancing. Wyoming may not be the first place you would think of to visit this summer, but it should be. Summer in Jackson Hole offers unbeatable weather and terrain to do the most while in nature. Grab a group of your most ambitious friends and set out to climb the Grand Tetons or hike neighboring trails. When the UV is strong and you need a break from sweating, whitewater rafting, scenic float trips, and paragliding can help you cool off.

Make sure you catch a live concert in Teton Square while visiting the town. You and your squad can end the eventful day with some jamming out under the stars. Sounds like heaven, right?
