Hungry? Thirsty? Tired? Chances are you're feeling at least one of those things if you're about to embark on an outdoor activity (at least we are). Needless to say, we’re pretty serious about snacking at Halfdays, both on the trails and at the office! While we love a sugar rush as much as anyone, we’re always searching for that elusive snack that provides the perfect mix of healthy carbs, whole grains and protein to keep us energized and happy.

Honey Stinger Waffles & Chews

According to our Slack discussion on snacks right now, there is no wrong way to eat a waffle except to not eat one at all. We’re obsessed with Honey Stinger Waffle because they’re yummy but also packed with proteins and have an easy-to-digest formula made specifically for athletes. Toodaloo Hot to Trot

We’re pretty much obsessed with Toodaloo over at Halfdays. There is absolutely everything to love about these flavor packed trail mixes (not to mention the super cute packaging). Our favorite is "Hot to Trot”, a perfect combo of sweet & spicy with protein packed ingredients like roasted chickpeas, dried pineapple, jalapeño powder & cayenne. From climate-friendly (and adorable) packaging to responsibly sourced ingredients, each bag is perfect for sharing but almost impossible not to finish in one sitting.

Quinn Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels

Quinn is easy to love, they’ve built a company based on offering a really delicious product made with ingredients that we can feel really good about, and they are totally transparent about where each of those ingredients is sourced. But back to the snacks, they have the absolute perfect salty to sweetness ratio, and are packed with protein to keep us happy on the trails. Quinn marketing team, if you’re out there reading this, please send more snacks!

88 Acres

Another favorite in our slack channel (thanks for the suggestion Alicia!) were 88 Acres granola bars. These are perfect, if you want a vegan (no nut!) plant based option. Their bars have a super short list of ingredients (aka no fillers) and a very reasonable amount of sugar, to keep you going, even when you’re grumpy that your friends underestimated the length of the trail you’re on.

Chubby Snacks PB & J

If you are the person who always packs a PB&J for every hike, only to eat a completely flattened sandwich 3 hours later, may we suggest Chubby Snacks as a healthier and easier alternative (no messy knives, just a quick thaw from the freezer). These snacks have a ton of hype right now, and it’s absolutely deserved. Their almond butter + strawberry jam sandwich is a great example where the "DTC version" is actually better than the original.

Granarly

The founder of Granarly, Morgan Potts, quite literally started her company after having a dream to put whiskey in granola, right before hitting the slopes in Breck. These days Gnararly has a full range of small-batch, gluten-free granola packed with nuts and seeds. Our favorite is their crunchy caffeinated blend called “Espresso yourself” which also contains dark chocolate chips. We’re not exaggerating when we say that this crunchy pick me is a complete granola-gamechanger.

Sunnies

The founders of Sunnies started their clean food brand with a leading pediatric nutrition expert but their snacks aren’t just for kids. We would literally die for their Pizza Dipper which comes with a zucchini parm sauce, organic mozzarella and a gluten-free cassava-flaxseed cracker. Crunchy, savory, balanced and made with nothing but the good stuff. When you pull this out on a trail, you’re going to be transported right back to the cafeteria where everyone wanted to trade you for your snacks.

When Vincent, the founder of Dang, told his mother, Mama Dang of his plans to open a pop-up restaurant in 2011, she gave him a hand-written family recipe for Thai lettuce wraps that included toasted coconut. When he tried making toasted coconut for the first time, he was so taken by the aroma and flavor that he decided to launch a snack company instead. The recipes use inspiration from the founder’s Thai-American heritage to create snacks so delicious you’ll say...“Dang, that’s good!”
